    Grateful: Day 4, Ancestors

    It’s the day after Halloween, November 1. In my high school Spanish II class I learned this is el Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. In the Mexican culture, it’s the day they celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away. At the time, I thought it was scary. I saw images of skulls and graveyards and that creeped me out. Then, I got distracted by and chose to focus on the food element (as I always do). It includes cooking your loved ones’ favorite foods, which is less eery than dead people.     Grateful: Day 3, Halloween Fun

    Happy Halloween! Today, I’m grateful for fun times with little people. This image is from about 6 years ago when I dressed my daughter as Michael Jackson. It was a real thriller (get it?) hunting for the right pieces at the thrift store, then watching it all come together. Halloween is one occasion that forces us to rekindle our imaginations. It’s hard not to be affected by the wonder and excitement it causes for children all around you.

    Grateful: Day 2, Maternity Clothes

    I’m grateful for A-line dresses and Liz Lange Maternity, because even though the baby has arrived, my original waistline has not. It’s gonna take a minute for it to get back and I’m okay with that. For some women, the weight falls away immediately or they work it off with intensity. Me? Yeah, I’m not one of those women. I’m allowing myself to go with the flow and let it fade away as gradually as it came upon me. I’m minding my meals and doing some mild exercise and that will take as long as it takes.
